Advice for the decisions that shape the application
Test scores are one input. College advising brings the rest of the process into view: what schools fit, which deadlines matter, what the student needs to write, and who is responsible for each next step. We work with families nationwide by live video, with a senior advisor and a schedule built around the student’s real calendar.
School list and application strategy
Build a balanced list from the student’s academic record, interests, priorities, and practical constraints. Discuss early decision, early action, and regular decision before committing.
Essays that stay the student’s work
Develop ideas, structure, and revision habits. The student writes every essay; we offer direct feedback to help the voice and thinking come through clearly.
Interviews and application details
Practice interviews with useful feedback, organize requirements, and review the pieces before submission.
Financial-aid information
Help families identify common aid forms and scholarship resources, including FAFSA and CSS Profile requirements where relevant. This is organizational support, not financial advice.

- Create an application Roadmap with dates, responsibilities, and decisions still to make.
- Research schools and build a list with a reason behind every addition.
- Work through essays, supplements, interviews, and submission checks in sequence.
- Use Progress Reports at milestones so parents and students can see what is complete and what remains.
College decisions belong to colleges. We cannot predict outcomes or promise admission, scholarships, or a particular list of acceptances. We can help the student make informed choices and submit a thoughtful, complete application.

Lyla leads Reading and Writing and College Advising at Ascension. She has eight years of teaching experience and is a certified school counselor. Her work with students centers on clear reading, strong writing, and practical decision-making through a process that can otherwise feel confusing.
