Meet Matt and Lyla.
Ascension Academics serves families nationwide with live virtual SAT and ACT preparation, academic support, and college advising led by experienced educators.
Matt
Founder and Director of Mathematics
Matt leads SAT and ACT Math, Algebra, Geometry, Precalculus, AP Statistics, and the mathematics curriculum across Ascension. He studied at Binghamton University before a career in finance, then moved into education full time.
For 14 years, he has taught students, developed mathematics curriculum, and led math departments. He earned perfect scores on both the SAT and ACT. His focus in a session is practical: help students reason through difficult work independently, and explain their own thinking.
Lyla
Director of Reading and Writing and College Advising
Lyla leads SAT Reading and Writing, ACT English and Reading, academic writing, college essays, and college advising. She has eight years of teaching experience and is a certified school counselor.
She helps students strengthen comprehension, analytical writing, and communication while giving families a clear way through the college process. Her feedback is direct, but the final work always belongs to the student.

Every student works directly with a senior instructor.

Students and parents receive practical records of the plan, the work, and progress.
Limited enrollment
Senior instructors accept a limited number of students per semester.

Keep the work clear
A steady teaching relationship and a clear plan support each other. For test preparation, a few records guide the work: a Diagnostic to establish the starting point, a Roadmap that turns priorities into a sequence, a Practice Plan between sessions, and a Session Recap after them. A Progress Report gives parents a useful view of direction over time.
Those documents connect each lesson to the plan. They also make it easier to adjust when a score, school deadline, or academic demand changes.
