How Ascension Works
A clear process, built around what the student actually needs.
The starting point and deliverables differ by service, but the standard stays the same: thoughtful assessment, experienced instruction, clear communication, and an accountable next step. Every service is delivered online, wherever your family is based.
Three Paths
Start with the path that fits.
A managed test-preparation program with named specialist leadership from Matt Murillo and Pauline Bordonaro. Some students work with one senior instructor; others work with a coordinated specialist team. Either way, the program runs on one roadmap, targeted assignments, documented progress, and consistent parent communication.
Subject-specialist support for school coursework, matched to the exact subject and course level. Academic Tutoring
Strategy and structure from school list through submission, guiding the student's own work. College Advising
Test Preparation
SAT and ACT preparation.
Test preparation is Ascension's flagship. It runs as a managed program with named specialist leadership, not as isolated hourly tutoring.
- Consultation.Goals, timeline, and current standing.
- Existing-score review or diagnostic.Recent official scores, or a full-length diagnostic.
- Skill and pacing analysis.Where points are won or lost, and where time runs short.
- Individual roadmap.A written plan with focus areas and timeline.
- Specialist instruction. One senior instructor, or a coordinated specialist team.
- Targeted practice.Assignments matched to current focus areas.
- Written recaps.Short notes after sessions for the family.
- Progress measurement.Section data tracked over time.
- Readiness and next-step review.A clear read on readiness and the plan ahead.
Academic Tutoring
Academic tutoring.
- Review the course and current concern. We start from the actual class and what is difficult now.
- Identify the subject expertise required. The exact subject and course level guide the match.
- Match with an appropriate instructor. An instructor chosen for command of that material.
- Begin weekly or targeted instruction.Ongoing support or focused help, as needed.
- Address coursework and underlying gaps.Immediate work, plus the foundations beneath it.
- Provide targeted practice when useful.Practice matched to the course, not a fixed script.
- Communicate progress and next priorities.Families stay informed on where things stand.
Coursework support does not use the test-preparation diagnostic model. It starts from the course and the current concern.
College Advising
College advising.
- Student and family consultation.Goals, priorities, and fit.
- Profile and priorities review.Strengths, interests, and constraints.
- School-list and application strategy.A balanced list and a plan to approach it.
- Timeline creation.Deadlines mapped across the cycle.
- Essay planning and revision.Structure and feedback on the student's writing.
- Application review.A careful read before anything is submitted.
- Interview preparation.Practice and guidance where relevant.
- Deadline and submission support.Structure through submission.
We guide and review the student's own work. Ascension does not write applications or essays for students.
